Food
Food insecurity is one of the biggest challenges facing Kenya as a nation at the moment. The World Food Programme estimates that 3.5 million Kenyans are in urgent need of food assistance with 1 million people seriously malnourished across the country. This number is expected to rise to 4.4 million people aged between 6 and 59 years old who are in desperate and urgent need of food assistance in the coming months. Through our model of growing our own produce, rescuing food products before they go to waste, cooking nutritious meals and ensuring these meals feed those who need it most we know seeing a Kenya that experiences zero hunger is possible.
Grow.
We have recently begun growing our own produce on a farm in Narok. We are passionate about sustainable food systems. We are playing our role in growing vegetables to give away to the vulnerable in the community.
Rescue.
We want to see a Kenya that experiences zero food waste so we have partnered with agro-processing organisations to rescue and distribute consumables to those going hungry.
Cook.
Our commercial-grade kitchen facilitates the preparation of hundreds of kilos of hot meals for those who need it most as well as providing a training ground for vulnerable women to gain the necessary skills to obtain sustainable work.
Most weeks the Joy Divine team cooks hundreds of hot meals to bless children in non-formal schools, teen mothers and those living on the Streets around Nairobi. For many, this may be their only meal that day or even a few days. We also partner with the Red Cross to practically respond when diasters arise across Kenya with hot meals. These nutritious meals are served as the team takes time to talk with the individuals, hear their stories and offer them hope through sharing the word of God and prayer.
Serve.
Every week the Joy Divine Kitchen & Foodbank feeds 3000 vulnerable children, single mothers, street-connected families, the disabled the elderly, the sick and those affected by disasters in slum communities across Kenya.

There are many informal schools around Mathare. All of which have very limited resources and ability to provide meals for the students. (how often) Joy Divine cooks and distributes Uji and bananas to a number of local early childhood development centres and primary schools. It is always a joy to see the smiles on the children’s faces.

Every year Joy Divine facilitates a food drive to support widows and children in their distress. Whether it is from a fire, drought, flood or other emergency. Joy Divine wants to support these families with enough dry and stable foods to get them through the hard times.

Educate.
Education is the cornerstone of all we do. We are passionate about ensuring children stay in school with full stomachs and provide vulnerable children with opportunities to attend camps and learn outside of the classroom.

Through our accredited training course, we are empowering young mothers with the practical skills to pull themselves up and into sustainable futures.
Medical Camps
Other than food insecurity, access to affordable medical attention is a huge struggle for vulnerable families living in slum communities in Kenya. A couple of times a year in partnership with generous donors, facilitates medical camps so individuals can receive much needed and thorough medical checks and medications without charge.
Vulnerable Children Support
Even though of focus has shifted from solely supporting children, they are still in our hearts. We have a number of vulnerable children we are supporting long-time by supplying what they need for school, warm clothing during colder months, access to school holidays camp on the Nairobi coast at Word of Life and ongoing mentorship through holiday VBS and Bible Clubs.
Community Library
Our multipurpose hall located along Outering Road, is a fully equipped Community Library. We love opening our doors to local non-formal schools so they can utilise the space and resources to teach the children valuable literacy skills which they otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity to do so. Our hall also offers a safe place for children to come and complete their homework or get lost in a good storybook after school.
Community Playgroup
We are in the process of setting up a Community Playgroup. For a few hours a week, we will open our hall for young children who are not in school and left to roam the streets to come, play and learn.
